The Mighty Stage Crew
It is not enough to line up some brawny volunteers to move sets and work the main curtain. The stage crew has to be intelligent and mature. Their backstage behaviour can make or break a performance, and their attention to detail is a major safety issue. The old rule that only men or boys belong on a stage crew is way out of date – this is definitely a co-ed department today.
On one of our shows, Nana's Naughty Knickers, stagehands had to make doors open, clothes racks turn and a number of other things. Many in the audience thought it was done mechanically, the students did it so well! At other times, our crew gets applause, even when seen, for swiftly appearing, and changing scenery in unison.
Without a stage crew, a production cannot happen - volunteer to be a part of a show!
